Chinese animated blockbuster "Ne Zha 2" hit Hong Kong screens on Saturday in a much-anticipated general release, after it smashed box office records on the Chinese mainland and became the highest-grossing animated movie of all time globally.
The film was screened over 800 times across Hong Kong on its opening day, attracting more than 90,000 moviegoers and grossing over 6.5 million HK dollars (about 836,545 U.S. dollars) at the box office.
A sequel to the 2019 hit "Ne Zha 1," "Ne Zha 2" continued to build on the beloved Chinese mythology surrounding the character and has been celebrated as a milestone for Chinese animation.
Ticket platform tallies indicated that as of Feb. 22, the film has grossed over 13 billion yuan (about 1.8 billion U.S. dollars) at the box office, ranking the eighth in global box office history.
